There is always someone who needs an answer. Something that needs remembering. A message to reply to. A decision to make. Someone to look after.
Sometimes, even the things that are meant to help can feel like one more thing you should be doing.
It arrives through your door simply because it's yours.
Make a cup of tea. Find ten quiet minutes. Open it when you're ready.
For once, nobody is asking you for anything.
I'll take you with me to places around Scotland — sometimes somewhere beautiful, sometimes somewhere ordinary.
I'll share stories I've discovered, places I've wandered into and the little things I've noticed along the way. The sort of things it's easy to miss when we're rushing from one thing to the next.
You won't know where we're going until your letter arrives.
There'll be a few little paper surprises tucked inside your letter too.
It might be a beautiful card, a little print, a sticker, something to make or simply something lovely to keep.
I won't tell you exactly what I'm sending each month. That's part of the fun!
Hello, I'm Gillian.
Remember when we used to get post through the letterbox that we actually wanted to open?
I loved getting post when I was a child. Seeing an envelope with my name on it always felt special, whether it was a letter from my Granny or from my penpal in France. I'm pretty sure I still have some of those letters tucked away somewhere, more than forty years later.
I'd rather ignore most of what comes through the letterbox these days. It's usually a bill, junk mail, or something else that wants something from me.
Life can feel a bit like that too. I'm a single mum to teenage twins and I run a business so there's nearly always someone who needs me or something that has to be done. Like so many women, I'm good at making time for everyone else but not so good at making some for myself.
That's really where the idea for Letters from Scotland came from.
I wanted to create something I'd love to receive myself. Something personal to look forward to. An envelope with your name on it that doesn't want anything from you.
Just an excuse to make a cup of tea, sit down for a little while and enjoy something that's just for you.
So, once a month, I'll write to you.
A few quiet pages of stories, places and little things I've noticed around Scotland, with a small piece of art or paper surprise tucked inside for you to keep.
£15 per month, including UK postage.
